Are you considering a destination wedding but are daunted by the thought of additional expenses (think air fare, accommodation, shipping, etc.)? Most brides equate destination weddings with a secluded island paradise or the rolling English countryside, but there are many provinces in the Philippines that are as breathtaking and romantic as these popular destinations. The best part? They're right in our backyard and may not cost as much as you thought it would.

Batangas

Known for its beaches and dive spots, Batangas also has a wide selection of grand old churches such as the Basilica of St. Martin in Taal. These historical gems are the perfect backdrop to the wedding ceremony, after which, you can celebrate with your guests at several full service hotels and resorts that offer wedding packages (many of them are at par with Manila establishments). Batangas is also only a few hours away by car from key cities in Metro Manila making it easily accessible to guests who wish to just drive over to attend your special day.

Tagaytay

Tagaytay offers several cozy venues for an intimate wedding with some offering a sweeping view of the Taal Lake and volcano. The nippy weather, especially during the holiday season, makes it a popular and practical option for those who wish to tie the knot in a serene and natural environment. It is also near enough for a day trip so you may not need to book accommodations for all but your VIPs.

Iloilo

Iloilo's ancestral mansions and good food have made it an up-and-coming destination wedding favorite. Several of its beautiful churches are just within the city with a number of hotel options just around the area, making it easy for you to find accommodations for you and your guests. Iloilo is accessible via several key cities and can be reached by land, sea, and air giving you several travel options that will suit your budget.

Boracay

A popular destination, Boracay already has its own network of local wedding suppliers and bridal shops so you don't have to worry about the extra cost of flying everything in. Plus, hotels and resorts in the area have the means to accommodate weddings (though Catholic ceremonies still have to performed inside a church) and can offer several reasonably-priced wedding packages. Most airlines also offer seat sales to Kalibo or Caticlan so planning and purchasing in advance helps secure savings.

Laguna and Quezon

These provinces south of Manila are known for their quaint resorts that allow for secluded wedding receptions or ceremonies (non-Catholic). If you want an old-world feel to your wedding (think heritage churches and horse-drawn carriages) you may want to consider these destinations. Artisan crafts and local delicacies are also widely available and may be budget-friendly gift options for your entourage or favors for your guests.
