While much attention is given to brides during the wedding preparations, couples should remember that the big day is just as much about the groom, too. Brides take pains to find the perfect wedding gown, but grooms also want to look their best on their wedding day. A nice suit would surely add that extra spring to a groom's step, and that's what clients come for at Jackson Tailors.

Making bespoke suits since 1962, Jackson Tailors was founded in Hong Kong by the late Jackson Chu. Eventually, the business was brought to Manila, where Jackson Tailors flourished and became an illustrious name in the industry.

Today, Jackson Tailors boasts 50 years in the business of making suits. The company is currently handled by the founder's son, Jeff Chu, who had a stint with producing ready-to-wear clothes before he took over the business in 2011. While Jackson Tailors still churns out suits in traditional designs, Jeff also brought in new style sensibilities to appeal to a younger crowd. Moreover, they launched the Black Label line, which features avant garde designs for the fashion-forward groom.

Despite the shift in their aesthetics, Jackson Tailors never lost that touch for excellent craftsmanship. Premium fabrics are ordered from Hong Kong, Singapore, and even as far as Europe. Jeff personally attends to each client to make sure that the details and fit are impeccable.

Jeff shares that they work in close collaboration with the client. With their technical know-how in tailoring, they suggest styles that would best suit the wearer. Jeff stresses that it's important for them and the client to both be happy with the output. They listen to the client's input to know what the client is comfortable with, but they also make sure that the final design fits the client.

A regular suit takes seven days to finish. A more special suit--like one that a groom would wear to his wedding--would need three weeks. At least six months lead time is required for the entourage's suits. A regular, non-piña barong would be finished in five days, while one in piña fabric would take a week and a half. Their newest offering is the tux barong, which is something that Jackson Tailors pioneered. The tux barong takes three months to finish, since they also have to coordinate with the bride to make sure that the embroidery on the barong complements the style of the wedding gown.

Jackson Tailors is really particular about quality control--and that, Jeff says, is what sets them apart from the competition. They never compromise the quality of their work just so they can take in more clients. In the future, Jeff wants Jackson Tailors to be a household name for great suits--and with such standards, that vision will surely come sooner than anticipated.
