Aside from showing special moments of the couple's big day, the wedding video should also tell a unique story. While couples might go through the same ceremonies and traditions, each couple brings something different to the narrative, and this is one idea that Lénaïc Maréchal of Lmvisual Wedding Films believes in.

Lmvisual Wedding Films, which was officially launched in 2009 in France, has allowed Lénaïc to capture nuances in different love stories. In a year, Lénaïc shuttles between Asia and Europe (he plans to set up shop in the Philippines soon)--and while his clients' cultures vary, the universal theme of love takes centerstage in every video. Lénaïc shares, "The main aspect of a wedding that catches my attention as a filmmaker is obviously the emotions brought by the couple and their family. [Those emotions are] necessary, and will make the difference between a wedding video and a story told through a wedding film."

Lénaïc describes his work as "cinematographic, filmic storytelling," as he shoots scenes akin to those of a movie. In telling his clients' stories, Lénaïc relies on an unexpected inspiration. "My inspiration might sound a bit unusual for a videographer, but it mostly comes from photography, not videography. Photography, which is something I've done for years, allows me to get inspired with the composition and stay very meticulous about details. [The video is about] the emotions brought by the couples, [but] the sense of composition brought by the filmmaker will help to enhance these emotions," he says. His background as a cameraman and video editor in the action sports documentaries and corporate films also helps him create memorable videos.

While videos of Lmvisual Wedding Films feature various techniques, Lénaïc does not lose sight of the output's objective, which is to showcase the couple's love story. He narrates, "I like to let [the couple] feel free in order to be themselves--my presence is also very discreet. The main goal is to capture their true emotions, and my experience taught me [that] couples are not always comfortable in front of the camera. It always helps them feel more comfortable [when I] explain to them how I work before the wedding day. [By doing] so, they can express themselves and their emotions the best."

The wedding day is filled with exciting events, and Lénaïc makes sure he captures them all by getting ready. "The most important kind of preparation as for us wedding filmmakers is to have a precise program of the wedding day in order to anticipate to the maximum the day's events, and to never be surprised by them. The key of successful filming is anticipation," he says. Visiting the locations prior to the wedding also helps Lénaïc work efficiently on the big day. "[I do] light testing, landscape shooting for the intros and outros, or some time lapses--[these are] time savers and are helpful in order to, once again, anticipate. [These allow me] to focus on the couple, the family and their emotions [on the wedding day]," he adds. With Lénaïc's foresight, he allows Lmvisual Wedding Films' art in moving pictures to flourish.
