Friends-turned-lovers Jona and Alvin tied the knot at Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay with yellow as their chosen motif. The January affair was marked with a lot of DIY projects, a bright garden setting, and a cheery crowd.

Since Sonya's Garden was already abundant with flowers, the only flowers the couple needed to purchase were for the bride's and entourage's bouquet. Sunflowers and statice, which they bought from a local flower shop in Tagaytay, matched the garden's charm.

The bride's bouquet was made of purple, white, and yellow statice simply hand-tied by her friends. The bouquet's 'freshly picked' look channeled a chic rustic charm.

Jona & Alvin: Rings

The couple had an identical pair of matte white gold rings engraved with two korus facing each other. "A koru is an integral symbol in Maori art. According to Wikipedia, it is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. The circular shape of the koru helps to convey the idea of perpetual movement while the inner coil suggests a return to the point of origin," the bride explains.

The couple held their reception at the Sunflower function hall of Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay. The bright yet rustic interiors--with its wooden chairs, capiz window-laden walls and translucent ceiling--set the perfect backdrop for the couple's cheery wedding.

The couple had their own photo booth for their reception. They set up a wall adorned with colorful Japanese paper fan-like circles and a green bench, and papier-mâché figures of the couple's name and wedding date served as props.

One of the couple's many DIY projects for their wedding was the photo wall they set up at one corner of the reception venue. The wall featured their prenup photos in bleached frames, which were strung together. "[W]e couldn't find affordable bleached, wooden frames so we decided to make our own. We bought frames on sale, downloaded a how-to [guide], and spent one afternoon winging it," shares the bride.

Since the couple held their wedding at Sonya's Garden, they decided to take advantage of the flowers around the venue and just do with non-floral decor. Each of the reception tables was marked with table centerpieces made of driftwood twigs, small yellow and white poms, and Polaroid-like photos of the couple.

For their guestbook, the couple asked their friend, Rachelle Tesoro, to paint a tree on a blank canvass where guests can stamp their fingerprints as leaves and then sign their names and messages. The couple just bought a couple of ink pads and pens.

Instead of having the usual bound guestbook, the couple opted for a canvas painted with a tree where guests can stamp their fingerprints and sign their names and messages.

Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, the couple had a three-tier cake stand filled with mini cakes from Purple Oven. To make the disposable cake stand more presentable, the couple decorated it with doilies and lace.

On top of the couple's mini-cakes was a cut-out of a sketch made by the bride's friend, Rachelle Tesoro. "Funny story about the sketch, Rachelle actually made it in the early 2000s as part of a graphic novel she wrote. The two people depicted were characters in the novel who were fraternal twins. The inspiration for the girl was me, the guy was from her imagination. Almost a decade later, I met Alvin who looked almost exactly like the guy in the sketch. [It's] destiny," the bride gushes.

Some of the cafe cakes from Purple Oven were given away as game prizes. Each mini-cake was placed in an acetate dome container tagged with the couple's names and wedding date.
