Kat and Duane got together in 2007, after almost a decade of losing touch with each other. But in June of the same year, their budding romance was put to the test when Duane received orders from the US military to be deployed to Iraq for 15 months. Kat prayed fervently for Duane's safety and waited patiently for his return. Her long wait eventually paid off when Duane finally came home safe and healthy.

On the eve of Christmas, 2008, Duane gave Kat a special surprise. As they were strolling along Inner Harbor, a famous seaport in Maryland, USA, Duane got down on one knee and popped the question. Of course, Kat accepted his proposal, and she later found out that he had been carrying the ring in his pocket for days, waiting for the right place and the right time. In the end, they realized that the right person makes everything worth the wait.
